Dubai Municipality has introduced a fully electric waste collection lorry, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainability and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate. The move reflects the municipality's commitment to protecting the urban environment, according to the Dubai Media Office.
This initiative aligns with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which has set targets to reduce waste generation by 18 percent and divert all waste from landfills by the year 2041. The new electric vehicle is capable of traveling up to 150 kilometers on a single charge and is equipped with three lithium-ion batteries weighing approximately 2.2 tonnes.
Officials stated that the introduction of electric vehicles into waste collection operations is a practical step towards adopting clean technologies and reducing reliance on conventional vehicles, thereby lowering emissions and improving energy efficiency. This development supports Dubai's aim to be a leading global city in sustainability and innovation.
